Project Overview
Parks Victoria have a depot at Burnley Harbour, which connects the Yarra River at Burnley to the harbour facility. The Main Yarra Trail crosses between the harbour and the river, using a series of interconnecting pontoons to provide a shared bicycle and pedestrian pathway. One section of the pontoon is designed and constructed to swing open, to allow boats and other vessels to pass between the river and the harbour. The pontoon automatic control system is the system that opens and closes the pontoon when needed by the Parks Victoria rangers, including the control of the associated pedestrian and bicycle access control gates.
In early 2020, MBB were engaged by Parks Victoria to undertake both the role of Project Manager and Superintendent on the replacement and modernisation of this system. Our scope was to plan, develop, procure, and administer the delivery of a modernised automatic control system that secures the reliable use of this harbour for many years to come.
Project Scope
The team managed the development of technical specifications, and shop drawings that were ultimately reviewed and approved by Parks Victoria. MBB then secured a suitably qualified contractor to undertake the works, including design development, electrical system upgrades, pedestrian gate and water wheel replacement and pontoon upgrades. The system was fully developed including Factory Acceptance Testing and is due for completion mid-2022.
